SUMMARY:Knowledge Brokering through Curriculum Co-Design: Lessons from Justice-Centered Computing Education
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this engaging knowledge cafe with F. Megumi Kivuva to explore practical co-design and knowledge brokering routines\, examined through their work with curriculum co-design for justice-centered computing education (JCCE). Guided by bell hooks’ notion of praxis\, this knowledge cafe focuses on how Megumi teaches and shares research with practitioners to support their teaching through curriculum co-design for justice-centered computing education (JCCE). By examining the collaborative processes used to design and adapt curricula that foreground computing’s social-political implications within the constraints of informal learning environments\, Megumi will highlight the relationship work behind the design\, including issues of trust\, role navigation\, and the creation of boundary objects. Key challenges encountered in the process will be discussed along with the design choices used to navigate these challenges.  \nRegister Today! \nAbout Megumi: I am a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow at the University of Washington\, Seattle\, advised by Prof. Amy Ko. My PhD research aims to co-design computing education pathways for refugee youth\, their families\, and the community organizations that support them. Through community-participatory methodologies\, I work closely with refugee support organizations to develop computing education programs for refugee youth. My previous work includes CS integration in language learning\, co-construction in CS classes\, computational embroidery and e-textiles\, and teaching computing in various after-school settings. I hold a BA in Computer Science and Spanish Studies from Bard College.

SUMMARY:Storytelling with Education Data
DESCRIPTION:Data storytelling is a powerful way to bridge the gap between research and practice\, turning complex findings into clear\, engaging narratives that inspire action. In this session for the Education Knowledge Brokers Network\, Andy A. Accettola\, PhD\, will share practical strategies for translating education research into stories that resonate with educators\, policymakers\, and stakeholders. Drawing on his experience as a former middle school teacher\, researcher\, and consultant\, Andy will demonstrate how to frame compelling data questions\, incorporate student voice\, and use visualizations and the And-But-Therefore (ABT) framework to create actionable insights. Participants will leave with tools to craft strengths-based\, evidence-driven stories that foster informed decision-making and meaningful change in education. \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:CREATEd Co-design Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Join the CREATEd team at the University of Delaware to learn more about an upcoming funded opportunity for EKBN members to participate in a co-design using the new CREATEd Co-Design Toolkit. Co-design is an approach to collaboration that brings together researchers\, practitioners\, and communication designers as equal collaborators to develop practical solutions to pressing educational challenges. The CREATEd Toolkit – to be publicly released later this fall – is an innovative\, equity-centered process for transforming research into usable\, research-informed resources.  \nLearn more about co-design\, proposal requirements\, and timelines ahead of the full call for proposals in November. SUMMARY:Evidence Synthesis with Educators in Mind
DESCRIPTION:Evidence synthesis research (systematic reviews\, meta-analyses\, and more) offers access to an entire body of literature in one place\, which is appealing for educational decision-makers who want a comprehensive look at evidence before making program and policy decisions. Yet\, studies on the use of research in education offer little evidence of educators actually using synthesis findings. Why does this gap exist and what approaches may help narrow it? These questions will guide the discussions in this knowledge cafe\, along with ideas and suggestions for approaches to bridge the gap. Join Dr. Elizabeth Day\, Assistant Director of Outreach and Research Assistant Professor at the University of Oregon for this presentation! \nRegister Today

SUMMARY:Beyond the Tools: Navigating the Messy\, Relational Work of Knowledge Brokering
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an honest conversation about what it really takes to facilitate collaboration across differences. We’ll explore why technical tools and frameworks\, while valuable\, are insufficient on their own\, and what an adaptive\, relationally rich practice of knowledge brokering looks like. This session\, facilitated by Cami Velasquez and Emma Parkerson from Systems Design Lab\,  centers collective inquiry over answers\, inviting you to surface shared challenges and explore what might be possible when we name the complexity together. We’ll explore questions like: \nHow do we create common ground for authentic collaboration when our systems pull us toward the familiar? \nHow do we navigate power dynamics and foster trust across diverse cultural perspectives? \nWhat would it mean to develop an adaptive\, relationally rich practice that situates tools within a deeper understanding of the human systems they serve?   \nThis event is open to all\, with particular relevance to emerging knowledge brokers and those starting to explore the field. Join us to share struggles\, compare notes\, and envision new possibilities together. Ahead of the event\, be sure to read their recent blog for EKBN to learn more. \nRegister Today!

SUMMARY:Language Matters - Part 2
DESCRIPTION:The Language of Relationships & Collaboration\nKnowledge brokering is a relational practice\, requiring careful thought about how we position ourselves relative to others\, and how our language communicates power and positionality. In this session\, we are joined by Dr. Simon Sjolund of Mälardalen University in Sweden whose work\, Discourses of collaboration and participant positioning in research-practice partnerships\, will help us surface the ways in which language shapes work across research and practice boundaries. This event is going to be interactive\, with an opportunity to explore and discuss instances of language and ways to reflect on how we can navigate power dynamics and cultivate more meaningful relationships as knowledge brokers. \nRegister\nRegister Today!
